Passage to Bermuda
|
We left Sopers Hole at around 10Am on Saturday. The boat had been prepared for the 8 day crossing. All items were carefully stored away, fridge & freezer packed with food. Fuel and water tanks were filled, motor checked and rechecked, hatches and portholes tightly closed, safety equipment close at hand, books and clothing for the trip were within easy reach. We were ready. |

BVIs and the passage home.
|
| We arrived in Spanishtown, Virgin Gorda, at around noon on Easter Monday. As we sailed by the Baths we were amazed at how many boats were anchored and moored there. |

Antigua
|
We have been in Antigua since Thursday evening. We had a wonderful three day sail to here from Rodney Bay , St Lucia. Melvin said goodbye to his family and we said good bye to the Pierrards on Sunday, and hello to the MacDonnells.....

From the Pierrards
|
Well, here we are, safe and sound back at home in our little wooden house that now seems more like a luxurious multi-roomed mansion.
How does a person write about an experience/vacation that was so filled with highlights? Bev asked me what my favorite memory would be and I had several pop into my head. Not the beautiful and quaint little island of Bequia, or the fantastic snorkeling at the base of the Pitons in St. Lucia, or the swimming with sea turtles in the Tobago Cays. My most treasured pictures in my mind are meeting Kyle at the airport; tall, dark, his hair braided into neat corn rows, smiling with his lovely grin... The kids laughing, leaping and diving off the boat into that terrific blue green water... Delicious meals around the big table on deck while the lamp swings merrily over our heads... Sitting and watching the sun dip into the water, laughing as someone tries to blow the conch shell... And all of this enjoyed with family, and friends as dear as family.
What else can I say? Thanks, from all of us. |

Practical packing for the a Caribbean cruise.
|
For many people who have been fortunate enough to take a vacation in the Caribbean, knowing what to pack and what not to bring can prove to be somewhat of a dilemma.
Some very good friends of ours joined us for two weeks on board the Amoeba, and I noticed that one of our guests appeared to have solved this problem in a very unique way.
He had bought an outfit with him that was very versatile, and I might add, very chic. This ensemble was spotted at various times and various events throughout the two week holiday.
He wore this two piece when we went to dinner, it was seen again a couple of days later at an early morning beach walk. It was worn for Cocktails at sunset on the back of the deck, he was defiantly not out of place wearing it at the grocery store or shopping mall. It was a great cover up when he had been in the sun for too long while sailing, it was even used while sunbathing, sleeves and pantlegs rolled up accordingly! It was used on our last night together on the boat when we celebrated with a nice dinner/birthday party. But, I have to say that the following photo showed the enormous versatility of this two-piece......... |

It feels great to be back at an anchorage for the breeze and the views. The hard work has been completed, very successfully, and it now feels like a different stage of the journey for John & I. |

The Downside of things
|
A friend made the comment recently ( referring to our trip) that "it can‰t be this good all the time, there has to be some things wrong"
So I gave this comment some thought and come up with a list of negative aspects of our whole experience. |

There is not too much going on the past few days as most of our time is spent working on the boat and doing schoolwork.
We did attend a beach BBQ though and met up with some local kids. Go to full story to see the pictures. ( and check out our new rasta girl) |

The girls and I decided today that we wanted to explore more of this lovely island. So after some research w decided that our transportation mode would be from the back of a horse! |

St Lucia
We have been here in Rodney Bay for almost a week. The first 4 days we were anchored about a 5 minute dinghy ride to get to the marina. This is a great place to be for an extended stay as there is lots to do. |

Xmas Day
We are in St Annes, it is Christmas Day. We would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and a happy peaceful and prosperous new year. We opened our gifts together this morning, lots of oohing & aahing! We had planned to go to the beach this morning but it was far to windy, so we stayed on the boat, had breakfast on deck.
We have made friends with 3 other cruising couples. They are all coming over to the Amoeba for Christmas dinner. Last night we attended a pageant, Martinique style, live animals, real baby and lots of improvisation as the cast re-enacted the Nativity, in French of course. Afterwards, we sampled some traditional Martinique Christmas fare that was made by the local women. It was really nice, very very busy with locals and tourists blended together.
We have had a little trouble with bandwith, and also just getting access to internet cafes to go on line. Read on to catch up on what we have been up to during the past week.
This may not be posted on the site until Monday or Tuesday. We are leaving early tomorrow morning to sail to Guadeloupe, we will do it in stages and arrive early Wed evening. |

We are here in St Martin, after leaving Nova Scotia in a snowstorm, it is very difficult to describe just how it feels to be is a tropical climate... Here is a picture of Laura..Does the smile on her face sum it up?

Safe in Bermuda

The crew reached Bemuuda after a week of sailing. The first few days were rough, 45 - 50 knot winds and very high seas. |

The Voyage, as told by Kyle!
|
|
In the eyes of me, the wonderful Kyle.... the first day, we assumed
that we would have an "alright" time getting there. The next few days
made us dead wrong. We were faced with broken parts, high winds, and
even higher waves |

The Adventure Continues
